The past three months I have spent living in Valencia, Spain which has inherently affected my everyday style and overall aesthetic. While living in Spain one of my favorite things to do was to sit and watch people in the city center due to the amazing outfits that I would end up seeing. In Valencia the narrow centuries old colorful streets became people's own personal runway. In most European cities, such as Valencia people dress to impress, loungewear is for lounging at home and not for walking around the city center and grabbing a cappuccino. Spanish style is elevated yet practical, but most definitely not boring. Outfits range through all styles and aesthetics, allowing fashion freedom in what you choose to wear. So with that, here is an insider look into the Spanish style!
Layering, layering, layering
Valencia's weather is some of the best weather I have ever experienced, with only 1 day of rain while I lived there, the sun was always shining. However the daily temperature range from morning to night was quite dramatic. This is why layering is key, the morning chill requires a jacket, but when noon comes and the Spanish sun is beaming down it can get quite hot, therefore a simple everyday knit, wool, leather, or trench coat jacket is an essential everyday staple. The Spanish style is all about layers, whether it's with or without a jacket or sweater, the outfit always worked, that's why a staple jacket is a necessary piece when in Spain. When spring started to bloom and the winter months faded away the Spanish women traded in their wool jackets, and thick sweaters for a simple linen button up. A simple white or even colorful linen button up overtop an outfit was the perfect layering equation, providing warmth for cool mornings while being stylish, equaling the perfect Spanish spring look.

Practical, versatile, stylish shoes
The Spanish lifestyle involves quite a lot of walking, but that does not stop anyone from showing their personality and their style through their shoes. Valencia, Spain has been named the sustainability capital of Europe this year, so therefore the majority of people walk, take the metro, or ride a bike to get anywhere and everywhere throughout the city. Although you might end up walking an average of 10 miles a day, the Spanish people will not take that as an excuse to not put your best shoe forward. As a shoe connoisseur myself, the range of styles of shoes I would see on my day to day was exciting and inspiring. From flats, to a full stiletto, the shoe would often be the eye catching detail to an outfit. Flats and tennis shoes were the two most popular shoe styles that I saw in people's everyday outfits. These two styles allow for maximum comfort for the Spanish lifestyle while also being an versatile stylish shoe that can be worn with just about anything in your wardrobe.

Crossbody Bags can be cute
In any large European city, pickpocketing can be a threat for visitors or even citizens. This is why in Spain, a wardrobe staple is an everyday crossbody bag, or a shoulder bag that zips, or buttons close. With the rise in trendiness of shoulder bags crossbody bags are often forgotten about or signed off as ugly and dated but I am here to tell you that that is not always the case, especially in Spain! Crossbody bags are the perfect bag for any city living girl. It's a practical bag that can fit all of your everyday items in, including your 6 lip glosses which are obviously all equally essential! A crossbody bag can be as functional as it is stylish, and the Spanish girls are here to tell everyone that. This is the one accessory that stood out to me while living in Spain, as one that was a daily Spanish staple and that can become yours too.

Trousers don't have to just be for the office
A common casual everyday outfit that is fit for both the workplace and also the streets, is a pair of trousers with a blouse, simple shirt, jacket or a blazer. Trousers soon came to my attention when walking around, seemingly worn as the Spanish version of jeans. In the U.S one of the most common everyday go to pant styles is the jean due to its versatility, whereas in Spain trousers seem to be the go to. A neutral trouser, in gray, khaki, black or navy, combined with any top or jacket, allows one to be comfortable while looking more sophisticated than if you were wearing jeans. A trouser is perfect for the workplace but also for the street. They can be dressed up or down, with a heel, sneaker or flat, or with the help of accessories. In Spain trousers are not just for the office but rather for everyday wear!
