What to Wear as a Wedding Guest: Summer Edition

Wedding season is upon us! Summer weddings are so glorious and beautiful, they’re the best kind of celebration; sunset, champagne in hand, drinking wine, feeling fine. More and more people are getting married and celebrating their love, and while the RSVPs are being sent out to guests, one question remains; what to wear? Where I come from weddings are a big deal, huge! Everyone looks their absolute best, dressed head to toe in the most perfect outfit, hair done, makeup done, the whole shebang. It is definitely a challenge to find a great wedding guest dress and there are so many factors to consider; you have to be season-appropriate but also wedding-appropriate and theme-appropriate (if there is one). We know the struggle if you have more than two weddings to attend in the next couple of months (but honestly, even one wedding is stressful enough)! What People Are Wearing is here to help you find amazing wedding guest dresses that will make some heads turn and graft too many compliments! (But not more than the bride of course).

Beach Wedding

Beach weddings are so common in the summertime. Everyone’s skin is dewy and glowing from the sun, and being freckled and tanned must be paired with a gorgeous dress to match the vibes, although it might cause a little perplexity to find a reliable dress for the night ahead. Lightweight fabrics are key in this scenario as you want to move around effortlessly, you don’t want to get too warm and spoil your fun! In terms of practicality going for chiffon, linen, or cotton is the ultimate choice. As for colors, you’d want to wear something bright and breezy, light pastels and any fun colors will work (avoid white for obvious reasons), but don’t shy away from mixing and matching a variety of hues and patterns to create a stunning result that will mirror the beachy atmosphere! One more thing; DO NOT wear heels; this will not go well for you, and dancing the night away in heels on sand is not what we would call comfortable. So, ditch the heels and try opting for an elevated sandal!

We are obsessed with this dress, the colors just scream beachy summer, it is absolutely perfect for a summer wedding on the beach, and is lightweight so you won’t overheat!

Formal/Black Tie Wedding

Formal weddings might be the hardest to dress for, as you absolutely need to be in line with the dress code. But isn’t it so fun to play dress up and look your best for the festivities? Formal weddings are typically considered more traditional, some might even say posh, however we think it is just the perfect occasion to go all out and look absolutely amazing! But this doesn’t necessarily mean black-tie attire and vice versa. For formal, mostly anything goes as long as it’s appropriate and doesn’t go over the top with patterns and colors! However, black tie events are a little different as the dress should be floor length and the color palette should be darker. So, pick out your favorite elegant wear, it’s time to dress to impress! There is no going wrong with fabrics like silk or organza. Although some might consider wearing black boring for a wedding, it is honestly your best friend for this occasion, there is nothing better than a beautiful black cocktail dress to make you look as elegant and sophisticated for the celebration ahead. Lastly, this is your chance to bring out your favorite heels and get on that dance floor!

If you are looking for something a little different, this dress from Reformation is perfect for a formal wedding, we love the neckline and the pattern.

We love this neckline and open back, a simple yet sophisticated dress that is perfect for black-tie!

If you prefer a little more coverage, this silky dress from Dissh is also great for a black-tie wedding!

Destination Wedding; Italy

Any destination is already so exciting, but weddings in Italy must be the cherry on top. Although I have never been to a destination wedding, I can only imagine they’re curated to perfection, and you have to be, too. Opting for some fun (but still appropriate) prints or patterns can add a great touch to your outfit of choice, and depending on the weather and time of day, colors are your best friend. No matter what you decide on, make sure you feel relaxed and comfortable, you want to channel YOU! Personally, I find that sequined fabrics or anything with a little bit of spice will do the job, and there’s no shame in going all out, you’re in ITALY for crying out loud! We feel that silky slip dresses are the ultimate destination choice that channels elegance and grace, but if you’re feeling bold; try opting for a print or garment that you typically wouldn’t go for in your day-to-day. We love a good red moment, especially when it’s got a good neckline to go along with it, and this dress is exactly what we’ve been looking for!
