Amsterdam is a great shopping experience because you have a plethora of options; second-hand and vintage markets, curated vintage stores, and designer boutiques carrying local and international brands. There are so many places to shop, it’s bad for the wallet (but good for the soul). Retail therapy is a little controversial at times, but we believe there’s no harm in doing it from time to time, especially when the seasons change and you’re in desperate need of a new bikini or purse. Whatever it is, there’s a place for everyone, and I guarantee you’ll find something amazing to satisfy your consumerist dreams. If you’re planning on visiting Amsterdam soon, we’re coming in hot with a list of some of the best shopping in the city!
We Are Labels
With a bunch of locations around the city, We Are Labels holds many local brands with some amazing pieces that you wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else, it is absolutely not possible to leave empty-handed. Branded as a lifestyle store for men and women, their mission is to spotlight independent brands and give them the credit they deserve! They also focus on sustainability and quality clothing that will last you a lifetime, so you better choose carefully.
Umé Studio
With one location in the Jordaan area, this place is the heart and soul of pre-loved pieces worn by your favorite influencers! This is such a fun concept, where influencers come in with their barely worn clothes and donate them to the store and then the store sells them at friendly prices to excited shoppers. Some of the garments still hold their original price tag, which Is always nice, new clothes for a fraction of the price, am I right? Umé Studio is a great place for second-hand shopping if you’re still really into the big international brands that we all know and love. They sell lots of NA-KD (which is not as common in the United States, so this is your chance to come back from your trip with some special pieces!), Zara, Djerf Avenue, but also high-end brands such as Prada! The pieces are of course trendy and special, and with a little bit of luck, you might run into some major finds. This place is amazing if you’re conscious about sustainability and want to be more earth-friendly!
AVC (Amsterdam Vintage Clothing)
One more amazing second-hand location, this is the ultimate spot for curated fashion and (real) vintage finds (I’m not kidding, last time I went they had a gorgeous Stone Island t-shirt from 1987 in store!). They bring out authentic pieces from years ago that are in excellent condition and are ready to be re-worn. This store has mostly high fashion pieces, with lots of Missoni, Versace, Prada, and Ralph Lauren, so it is definitely more on the expensive side. They have clothing for both men and women which is great if you’re heading over with a partner. Also, they have a beautiful collection of accessories, and I very much recommend checking out the sunglasses section, it’s pretty iconic!
Haas Amsterdam
This boutique is a four-generation, family-owned store that specializes in handmade clothing and accessories which is so impressive to begin with. It is located in the city center so very accessible; it is truly one of a kind! And if you’re into special pieces this is the place for you. It feels like they take their inspiration from the streets of Amsterdam, making it very local and welcoming. I especially love their huge scrunchies, super in style at the moment and elevate any basic outfit with a little bit of sass. They also have a very charming homeware section with ceramics and home accessories that are so unique and will make your apartment shine.
Nhogirl
Maybe the coolest shop in town! This warehouse-type shop is beautifully curated with carefully picked-out garments from top-notch iconic designers, and prices range from 20 Euros to as high as 1000! The unique space is draped in metallic and silver design, with a huge mirror and an ideal layout that makes you feel at ease (it can sometimes get overwhelming in second-hand stores, but this one is always so calming). There is a big selection of clothing, shoes, and accessories that are (mostly) for petite girls but there definitely is something for everyone. Nhogirl focuses on pre-loved items that are pretty special and not your average day-to-day finds, but be advised! There are no walk-ins to this location, so set up an appointment beforehand to secure a spot. This makes the shopping experience pretty special, as there aren’t many people around and you can browse, try on, and purchase on your own accord.
Anna & Nina
A beautiful concept store that has the cutest trinkets, clothing, and homeware, I’m serious, this place is heavenly. If you’re (somehow) tired of shopping for clothes, their jewelry and home decor section is actually insane; colorful prints, designed plates, pillows, mugs, candles, silverware, you name it, they have everything! The jewelry section varies from dainty little earrings to chunkier necklaces and statement pieces that are absolutely adorable for the gold AND silver girlies. They do carry some brand names in the store, particularly lots of GANNI pieces that are usually tougher to find in the actual store, so it is fun to browse around that section too. In summary, this store is wonderful, a perfect place to buy some gifts for your loved ones or yourself.
By1Oak
The most beautiful jewelry store in the city, no doubt. If you’re looking for elegant everyday quality pieces that do not tarnish, I truly recommend you check it out. All their jewelry is either made out of real silver or gold, and what I love about this shop is that they make all the jewelry in both, so there’s a great variety to pick from. They also specialize in stones and gems and the atelier can help you fix any piece to your size or add little customizable and personal touches to the pieces, which is super convenient if you’re traveling or on the go and they also sell jewelry for men! Their jewelry is inspired by Bali and created within the vibrant lifestyle of Amsterdam; this store definitely deserves a visit on your trip to the city.
Bonus for Him: Baskèt
If you’re shopping with your boyfriend, for your brother, a bestie, or anyone who is more into the masculine style and lifestyle, this is the place for you. This store is a sneaker mecca, with some very special shoes that you barely see anywhere else. They also sell clothes with unique pieces that are breathtakingly gorgeous and can definitely be styled for women as well as (obviously) men. They also have some accessories like beanies, hats, sunglasses, and perfumes, so it’s an ideal place to find anything for him (or her, or them, or anyone, we’re all-inclusive). Pro-tip: head on over to their little café near the De Pijp location called Café Baskèt for some great coffee/matcha/sandwiches and take a peek at their homeware collection, they have really special stuff and the vibes are immaculate, super local and friendly.
